Acne Breakout!!!
Lately I've been breaking out with Acne. I'm not sure if it's an adult change or due to stress. It's on my face, my neck and even my shoulders. To get the acne under control I've been using a product I bought at our local store. So far I haven't seen any improvement.
I wonder is there a better way for acne control? Can I just use an ointment or do I need a soap or cleanser as well? What about acne pads? I've tried acne pads before, but the problem I have with them is that they over-dry my skin. I already have dry skin, so using anything that has alcohol in it is a really bad thing for me. So what's a girl to do?

Hi Joy! My mom and I just went for facials and we were told that we shouldn't use soap on our faces. The first question is always about drinking water... So, are you drinking enough water?
ReplyDeleteVeronda,
ReplyDeleteI know that soap is too drying, especially for dry skin like mine. I use facial cleansers with moisturizers, rather than soap. Water and herbal tea are the only two drinks in my life. Well, and cappuccinos or rare occasions. I have never liked the taste of soda or any sweetened drinks with the exception of Cappuccino, so I don't drink them.
I believe my breakout is linked to stress.
I started having acne problems in my early thirties. Went to a dermatologist who put me on antibiotics for a long time. I don't necessarily recommend antibiotics since I don't like taking anything. But it did work.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost 50 now and still struggle with acne. They (experts of course) believe it's caused by hormones and hormonal changes which can certainly be triggered by stress. Or just life.
I have good success using Proactive. Some people find that too harsh. Arbonne has an acne system, too. It's not supposed to dry the skin out as much. I've had success with it, too; I just prefer the Proactive. I can hook you up with Arbonne if you're interested (I'm not actively selling, but I use their cosmetics so I have an account.) It's a frustrating problem, that's for sure.
The active ingredient in Proactive is Benzoyl peroxide (2.5%). Arbonne Clear Advantage uses Salicylic acid (1%). I believe salicylic acid is more expensive, but not as harsh. You can probably buy less expensive products at the drug store that contain these active ingredients.
Good luck!

ReplyDeletePam,
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Proactive. I just don't know that my breakouts are enough to try it. Lately I've been getting a lot of breakouts on my neck. I've been using facial wipes morning and night to help remove dirt and debris from my face and neck. So far it's not helping. Sigh
David,
ReplyDeleteI might have to check on that link. Thank you for the info.
