So without further ado, here are the steps I took to create my own at-home summer pedicure.
The Tools of the Trade:
- The Pedi Perfect Electronic Foot File by Amope'
- Sally Hanson's Overnight Heel Repair
- Sally Hanson's Triple Shine Nail Polish in Pool Party
- Revlon Gold Series Dual Ended Nail Clippers
- L.A. Colors Nail Polish Remover Pads in Strawberry Scent
- Nail File
- Nail Buffer
- Peroxide
- Lemon Juice
- Baking Soda
- Nail Brush

There's been some hype on Pinterest about whiter nails using a simple paste of peroxide, lemon juice, and baking soda. I was intrigued, so I decided to try it.
I just eyeballed the mixture using more baking soda to give it a paste texture and making sure the peroxide and lemon juice were equal amounts of one another. I scrubbed the mixture onto my toes with a nail brush and allowed it to set for about 5 minutes, then rinsed it off.
The results were cleaner nails, but not really any whiter than normal. So if you don't have the ingredients on hand, I don't recommend going out of your way to try this whitening method.
During My Pedi |
To be honest, save your money on something else. The Revlon clippers are no better than a regular set of clippers and in fact, seemed kind of dull for clipping in my opinion.
Then, I filed and buffed my nails with the file and buffer for smoothness. I had to be very careful when I did this. If you can't see from the photos, my nails have some serious blackened nail damage on my big toes. It's also why I try to keep my toenails polished when I wear flip-flops, and don't like to expose them on camera.

This was another recent purchase and well worth it in my opinion. It does a match faster job of filing away all of the rough areas on my feet verses an ordinary foot file. It's a must have for baby smooth feet, especially if yours are rough and dry like mine!
Then, I applied a quarter size amount of Sally Hansen's Overnight Heel Repair to my feet. Normally I don't do this until after I polish my nails because the oils aren't good on a manicure, but my skin was so dry, it needed immediate relief.
But I will admit, as much as I wanted to love this cream, it's no better than Vaseline petroleum jelly, which works just as great and is 10X cheaper, perfect for us mom's who are on a strict budget!
Finally, I applied 3 coats of Sally Hansen's Triple Shine Nail Polish in Pool Party. This was also a recent purchase because I found it on sale and love the color!
In general, 2 coats of this polish is enough, but because I had blackened nail damage, I needed 3 and as you can see from the photo, the damage still peaks through in really good camera light.

The results are a perfect ready for summer pedicure for any age!
