DIY: Simple Summer Ready Pedicure

I absolutely love Pinterest and over the past couple of days I have been noticing a lot of fun summer pedicures coming across  My Pinterest Page,  that really encouraged me to get naked and expose my toes for the world wide web to see, both the good, the bad and I apologise in advance, the truly ugly.

So without further ado, here are the steps I took to create my own at-home summer pedicure.

The Tools of the Trade:

The Steps:

I removed the red chipped off nail polish using L.A. Colors Nail Polish Remover Pads. They're small, but they do the trick, especially if you don't like the smell of regular nail polish or it's harshening effects. These pads actually moisturize the nails, which is a plus in my book, and they come in some really fun scents.

There's been some hype on Pinterest about whiter nails using a simple paste of peroxide, lemon juice, and baking soda. I was intrigued, so I decided to try it.

I just eyeballed the mixture using more baking soda to give it a paste texture and making sure the peroxide and lemon juice were equal amounts of one another. I scrubbed the mixture onto my toes with a nail brush and allowed it to set for about 5 minutes, then rinsed it off.

The results were cleaner nails, but not really any whiter than normal. So if you don't have the ingredients on hand, I don't recommend going out of your way to try this whitening method.

Next, I trimmed my toenails with my new Revlon Gold Series Dual Ended Nail Clippers. I bought them because they claimed you can trim straight across for a square look with the flat end, and trim across for a rounder look with the curved in.

To be honest, save your money on something else. The Revlon clippers are no better than a regular set of clippers and in fact, seemed kind of dull for clipping in my opinion.

Then, I filed and buffed my nails with the file and buffer for smoothness. I had to be very careful when I did this. If you can't see from the photos, my nails have some serious blackened nail damage on my big toes. It's also why I try to keep my toenails polished when I wear flip-flops, and don't like to expose them on camera.

Next, I filed the rough patches off of my heels and other areas of my feet using The Pedi Perfect Electronic Foot File by Amope'.

This was another recent purchase and well worth it in my opinion.  It does a match faster job of filing away all of the rough areas on my feet verses an ordinary foot file. It's a must have for baby smooth feet, especially if yours are rough and dry like mine!

Then, I applied a quarter size amount of Sally Hansen's Overnight Heel Repair to my feet. Normally I don't do this until after I polish my nails because the oils aren't good on a manicure, but my skin was so dry, it needed immediate relief.

But I will admit, as much as I wanted to love this cream, it's no better than Vaseline petroleum jelly, which works just as great and is 10X cheaper, perfect for us mom's who are on a strict budget!

Finally, I applied 3 coats of Sally Hansen's Triple Shine Nail Polish in Pool Party. This was also a recent purchase because I found it on sale and love the color!

In general, 2 coats of this polish is enough, but because I had blackened nail damage, I needed 3 and as you can see from the photo, the damage still peaks through in really good camera light.

The results are a perfect ready for summer pedicure for any age!
