Is Cessna Aircraft Risking the Lives and Limbs of their Employees?

One of the things I can't understand when it comes to Cessna Aircraft employees, is why they are not made to wear steel toe boots in certain departments. I know for a fact they are not because I know a lot of people who work there.

The bad news is, there are many dangers on the job there. Take for instance, The Mustang Line. They work with sheet metal. Sheet metal is heavy and if dropped on a foot, it can do some serious damage.

Now I do know they have to wear eye and ear safety gear, so why don't they regulate foot safety as well? I understand not every department at Cessna requires safety boots, but I can guarantee a few areas that should and are not.

In a sense this worries me because I remember when Emerson Electric's past employees demanded safety equipment and were refused. The only time Emerson Electric issued any type of safety equipment was when inspection rolled around. Yeah, really nice.

I doubt Cessna will ever take things that far, but they might want to look into further safety equipment since employees are risking their lives and limbs for them.

Fast Food. Slow Lines

After a busy day and no time to go home and cook dinner, my husband and I decided to drop by Arby's Fast Food for dinner. After we placed out order, we waited and watched as other customers placed their orders and then waited, just like us.

It took almost 20 minutes for us to get our order. There were maybe a total of 5 families waiting as we did. Yet, Arby's employees were scrambling like mad, responding to orders incorrectly and with missing food, and we noticed... standing around doing nothing. Not every employee, just a select few.

It's also not the first time we've experienced a problem with fast food taking forever. Another favorite, Taco Tico, we tend to avoid, nowadays. The last time we visited the fast food establishment for a quick meal, it took over an hour for us to get our food and.. get this... There were only three customers! One customer was angry enough that he got up and just walked out after paying and about 20 minutes of waiting on no food.

McDonald's is another fast food business that has slowed down on service. At one point the owner even had to come in to correct the employees mistakes.

So I wonder, is it a growing trend or just my imagination that fast food establishments are no longer fast? One theory I have is that employee just don't have the desire to work there. Even teenagers. Most are only paid a minimum wage and even that is not enough in today's insane world.

Crying Over a Job

Yesterday I was excited to learn that a job I have wanted for a few years now was opening for an employee again. I had my doubts however because in the past the opening would be already filled. As a matter of fact, a few weeks ago I called them just to make certain they were still hiring because the same position was in the paper then, and sure enough the position had been filled. Well, this morning I found myself up bright an early and off to check on the job in person.

When I checked with an employee I learned they were still hiring. When I checked in with one of the main bosses, I was told they couldn't consider me because it wasn't a full-time position and I guess I had listed full or part-time work on my application.

She then went on to explain that every time they hired someone, that someone would get hired on elsewhere for more money and quit with them, so of course they can't take the risk. I even went as far as figuring up what I needed to meet bills and between my free-lancing and there, it would have been more than enough. Still, her answer was no. Sigh. I can certainly understand that. But because of those past employees it's ruined my opportunity at a great job. :(

I guess I must have really been upset because as soon as I left the place, I was in tears. I have never cried over a job. I am still regretting putting full-time on that application. I had the chance to work at my dream job and I blew it. :(

Anymore, jobs are a no win situation. If you find a really great job and love it, why not stay? Well, certainly for most it's because of a certain little thing called money. And of course that's obvious from those who left the job I wanted. While I do understand that money is a problem, I believe you should be working at a job you love.

If you're working at a job you hate, it will show and affect your job, and those around you. Why do that to yourself or others for that matter? If you have to, cut back on those gourmet coffees or trips to the fast food drive thrus on your lunch hour. Give up the weekly splurge of a manicure and do it yourself instead.

There's no reason you shouldn't be working at a job you absolutely love and there's no reason why jobs should have to be leary of potential employees who really want to work for them, all because of past employees who didn't really want the job in the first place.
