A Life Less Lived

I don't really know anyone who hasn't been affected in some way or another by alcohol. Drinking it in simple moderation can be okay for some, but not everyone is able to control such an easily addictive drug.

Neither of my parents drank alcohol, so I grew up knowing very little of what alcohol could do to you. Then I met someone who became bitter an angry every time they drank. Even in small amounts the alcohol would completely take them over and they would become emotionally abusive.

Eventually I removed myself from being around that person and to this day I wish they would have considered going to an alcohol treatment center. They've passed on now from liver damage caused by the drug, yet their passing wasn't what caused the most hurt. Their drinking problem was.

I guess I will never really understand why some love the addiction of the substance. For me it's a yucky feeling the next day that I simply do not want to repeat, so I avoid the stuff. For others I guess it's an entirely different feeling, one that only they could love.

Even Celebrities Need Help

I've noticed lately that a lot of celebrities have been getting caught on camera with their drinking and drug problems. I was just reading the other day that actor Kiefer Sutherland has a major drinking problem and has even admitted that he does. The article I was reading even showed pictures of him in a drunken state, one with his pants down in public. Pretty insane if you ask me.

But unlike Kiefer Sutherland, most celebrities won't admit they have a problem. Still, just admitting to the problem isn't going to keep you away from the addiction. It takes a lot of help and hard work to get over a drug or alcohol problem.

An even bigger key is privacy. Celebrity or not, no one wants the whole world to know when and where you're being treated for an addiction. It's no fun having people hound you on a daily basis when you're trying to help yourself. Even worse is someone who will tell you that you don't have an addiction and try to get you to leave the treatment facility.

That is why drug rehab places like Sunset Malibu are so great. They help you get over your addiction in a private, soothing atmosphere. It's almost like taking a nice relaxing vacation, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that!

Life With an Alcoholic

Alcohol Abuse is not a simple matter. It should be taken seriously. When someone you know is abusing alcohol, it not only affects them, it also affects everyone around them.

I remember growing up and hearing about the times that my cousin would be wasted from booze. He would shoot at televisions because commercials would be playing, he would manage to get arrested for some reason or another... I know there were times that I wish I would have said something to him about his problem. Thankfully he recovered on his own.

Not everyone can recover on their own, however. And for those who do have difficulty, an alcohol rehab center like, Cliffside Malibu in Los Angeles, CA can help.

Cliffside Malibu specializes in the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse. The treatment center focuses on individual addictions while creating a relaxing and luxurious environment for that individual's comfort.

Their Goals and Objectives Include:

  • Determine appropriateness for treatment for each resident
  • Detox affected residents, when necessary
  • Evaluate individuals for substance use disorders and any co-occurring (dual diagnosis) disorders
  • Offer each patient an individual drug rehabilitation plan which maximizes comfort and the potential for success
  • Provide treatment for residents' families through our three day family program
  • Develop an aftercare plan which supports the program's philosophies and objectives

If you have a family member that is suffering from Alcohol abuse, please don't hesitate like I did. Get them help immediately. Even if your loved one does not live near the Los Angeles area, there are numerous rehab centers that are willing to help! Remember, it's not just your loved one that is hurting, those around him/her are hurting as well.

There's Still Beer in My Fridge

Last Saturday I had to work. When it was time to go home, the roads were nearly impossible to drive. I wasn't driving, but my boss was. Because of the snow storm there was no visibility for several miles whatsoever. At times we had to come to a complete stop. What is generally a 20 minutes drive took us a little over an hour.

Once we made it to town, the first words out of my boss's mouth was, "I need a drink!" That sounded good to me too, but we don't generally keep alcohol in the home. It's rare for us to sit down and have a drink.

So when I got home and my husband was headed to pick up pizza, I tagged along and dropped by a local convenience store to pick up a six pack of beer. Ironically it's all still sitting in my fridge, unopened. Well, it's there I guess if I ever do decide to have one. I wonder how long beer life has in a fridge?

OMG this is Soo Sad!!!!!! :(

I remember when David Hasselhoff was enjoying great fame with his shows Knight Rider and Baywatch. I still enjoy his shows. I don't know what has made him resort to drinking soo much. Nothing is worth it to be like this. David, you're not alone! Please know that. Just as I said about Paris, you're human too. You can't blame others for your drinking! Instead of drinking your problems away, why not sober up and focus on the problem itself. Drinking isn't the answer, but I am sure you have been told this time and time again. I have seen so many of my family members battle drugs and alcohol. Sigh. I say focus on your reason for drinking. Focus on what is hurting on the inside. It's obvious in the video there is a lot of hurt. Everyone experience's pain and it's so sad to see David in this state. Yes, he's done it to himself. I just hope he can realize that drinking is not the answer to life's hurt. Why do people do this to themselves??

I do have one thing to say. I believe his daughter had his best interest in mind, but I also believe in some sense this should have been a private matter. I am sharing this however because I believe people need to see that alcohol can affect anyone, even celebrities like David Hasselhoff.

Helping a Habit

When I was growing up I had a lot of family members who experimented with some form of illegal drug. While a few of them have kicked their habit on their own, sadly a few have not. As a matter of fact one is spending time in jail at the moment for his drug addiction.

While surfing through another site that I am working for, I found a drug rehabilitation facility called, Stone Hawk. After viewing their website I discovered this place to be unique.

The first thing I noticed was their main page offered information that every participant or family member may be concerned about. The offer answers on how to treat drug addictions as well as alcohol addiction. There are also articles on what a drug rehabilitation center is and even what to look for in a center. I was impressed.

Stone Hawk even offers information about individual drugs as well as other useful information. The great thing about their program, they don't use drugs or medication to treat the problem.`They also offer you a comprehensive look at the program which is downloadable through pdf format and have even gone as far as gathered information for you on funding the participant's treatment. To be honest, I don't think I have ever found a site that is so informative!

Here's a few highlights of what they have to offer:

  • Questions through articles about concerns a participant may have. There's also a toll free number provided, if you have further questions.

  • A rundown of each of their programs, including a life skills courses and aftercare treatment.

  • Information on drugs like methadone, cocaine, PCP, prescription drugs, alcohol and more.

  • A section where you can find previous participants success stories with Stone Hawk.

  • A virtual tour of the facility.

No stone is left unturned! All in all this place looks very impressive. I only wish my family members would have known about this place sooner. Thank You Stone Hawk for caring about our people.
