The Independence Reporter's Fax Machine is Haunted

It has come to my attention that our Daily Reporter Newspaper here in Independence, Kansas is haunted. OR at least its fax machine is anyway. Their fax machine has called my phone twice in the past three days. Once on Sunday after hours and once tonight after hours.

So why oh why is their fax machine calling me? Is it to torture me and my dream of becoming a well-known columnist for their newspaper? Or maybe it's simply to haunt my phone because there's nothing better to do in this one horse little ole' town? Please stop calling unless you intend to offer me a job with your paper. :-) Thank you so very much!

Problems With Our Police Departments

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday, my father bought the Joplin newspaper to read. In it he saw an article about the misuse of government issued credit cards. I know that the military must follow strict rules when they use a government card, so I wonder if police officers are issued government cards as well.

It makes me wonder because sadly in the past I've read about several police officers stealing from the evidence room or a local grocery or department store. Do they not have a spending allowance for clothing or police issued equipment such as 5.11 Tactical Knives or tasers?

I know they certainly don't make enough money starting out. So maybe that is the reason? Maybe the government or cities should be looking into situations such as these if they're not already doing so. But, if they are, I guess these officers would not be stealing for the pleasure of it or to make ends meet.

Pencil Sniffing

A few days ago I received some very interesting products in the mail.

1. Insta Snow Fake Snow Powder
2. Smencils Gourmet Scented Pencil
3. Ambient Fire Video Fireplace DVD
While all of these products are certainly interesting, I must say that the Smencils Gourmet Scented Pencil really caught my attention. In all honesty, I'm not really sure what use there is for a scented gourmet pencil. I can however, attest to the fact that it does smell like cotton candy. Maybe if I were a huge cotton candy fan it might make me crave cotton candy, but a scented pencil just doesn't seem all that useful to me.

I did love the fact that these pencils are made from 100% recycled newspapers. How cool is that! A pencil that isn't taking away from our environment. And I do have to admit the pencil does smell yummy. Might be a problem when you're trying to work and suddenly have a craving for cotton candy! lol

This might be fun stocking stuffers for the kids or someone who is a big fan of cotton candy, but for me, I could care less whether it is scented or not. I would however, buy these for the fact that they are recycled from newspapers and not taking our trees away.
