Eating Raw Oysters Safely

Usually when it comes to food, my tastes vary. Some may call me weird and others, picky. One of my favorite foods is sushi and with it, raw oysters. The first time I tried raw oysters was about 10 years ago in New Jersey. What's sad is I can't even tell you exactly where because I've forgotten most of that part of my life. After my first experience with raw oysters and of course sushi, I was hooked.

It wasn't until recently however, that I learned that consuming things like raw Gulf oysters can be actually dangerous. Eating raw oysters can actually lead to a disease known as Vibrio vulnificus.

If you love raw oysters as I do, you will definitely want to visit beoysteraware.com and learn more about Vibrio vulnificus.

If you're concerned about the disease, take a look at Be Oyster Aware's information on Post-Harvest Processes. The post-harvest process is a new technology developed by Gulf Coast oyster processors who are assuring that when we eat raw oysters, we stand less of a chance of contracting Vibrio vulnificus.

I know since I've become familiar with beoysteraware.com, I've been a little more cautious about my love for raw oysters. I don't believe anyone should have the right to tell you what you can and cannot eat when it comes to food, but there's no reason they can't share what they know about foods. Check them out....

Be Aware of Oysters and Live For Hope

Give me Gulf oysters any day of the week and I'll give you the world. Okay, so maybe that's just insane enough that it doesn't make sense. Hey, I never said I was a normal writer. Yet, as insane as my writing may be, sometimes I wonder if beoysterware.com is even more insane than I am.

Why, you may ask? Well... beoysteraware.com has just asked me to talk about what I might enjoy finding inside of an oyster vs. a pearl. Hmm. Okay, so maybe I am not a huge fan of pearls, so it's a rather interesting thought. A thought that however, can be easily answered by me. The answer is simple. Hope. Hope for this world and those who choose to be a part of it. Hope for those who are hated upon because of appearance. Hope for those who have been abused in this life. Hope for those who cannot see beyond a color. Hope that everyone can simply, just get along.

Maybe what I would enjoy finding in a pearl is not very realistic, but then again, neither is something as simple as a carrot.

If you have a passion for oysters like me, you may be interested in visiting beoysterware.com. There you will find information on oysters, the disease Vibrio Vulnificus and how it can affect your health if oysters are not cooked properly. Please be aware of your health. After all, you only have on life to live.

Osyter Awareness. Get the Facts.

Have you ever felt like the joke's on you? Well, I bet this mom-to-be Oyster did. Enjoy!

A father-to-be anxiously awaits the birth of his first child, but to his shock his wife gives birth to a baby crab. Quickly his wife looks up at him and says, "I'm sorry. I meant to tell you." To which he angrily replies, "You've been down at that crab shack eating crabs without me, again haven't you?"

If you're like me and love raw oysters, you may not even be thinking about the serious dangers of eating them raw. Oysters like, Gulf oysters can be very dangerous for some people. They can carry Vibrio vulnificus, a disease that can cause serious illness in some people.

An easy way to avoid the disease is by making sure you eat cooked oysters rather than raw ones. If you're like me however, eating cooked verses raw is easier said than done. So if this is the case, please at least educate yourself through Be Oyster Aware's website and get the real facts about consuming raw oysters. It could save your life.

Raising Alzheimer's Awareness

As many of you may already know, this isn't my first post about Alzheimer's awareness. A while back I wrote about walking for Alzheimer's. It's a cause I am passionate about.

I worked as a CNA for nearly 2 years before a back injury caused me to set my love for nursing and caring for elderly people aside. If you have ever been a nurse or you've been able to be around our elderly generation, then you know how special they truly are.

I loved hearing the stories of their past! It was as if I was truly living history right along with them! Nothing beats hearing a live story about history verses reading about it in a text book.

It saddens me that so many of our elderly are now facing Alzheimer's. Last Friday at the store my husband pointed out an elderly lady who had stopped in the middle of an isle and looked lost for a moment. I wondered if she had the beginning of Alzheimer's. I worried. What if she wanders off somewhere and cannot find her way home. What if she has no family to worry about her.

She is the reason why it is very important to have a memory screening done for Alzheimer's. It's very important!

While I understand that it is difficult to care for someone with Alzheimer's, it's not a curse or a reason to ignore or fear.

If you're unfamiliar with the facts about Alzheimer's, please feel free to visit the Alzheimer's Foundation of America website where you can find more information about Alzheimer's, including: "successful aging tips."

While you are there, please consider making a holiday gift of a contribution for Alzheimer's. It's important that we find a cure. Without it, our loved one's memories may be lost forever and I don't want to see that happen! I love learning about our history through our elderly! Don't you??
