Don't mind me, I'm just a little perturbed right now and The After of My Grandfather's Organ

Lately, I've been on a Spring Cleaning Spree when I have some spare time to do so. I'd started with my desk about a few weeks ago and moved on to my grandfather's organ.

Well, last night I had to re clean my desk again, thanks to all of the paperwork and junk that had landed there, and not by my hand, mind you. As of right now, I'm the only one doing any sort of cleaning in this house right now and while that's fine by me for the moment, I'd really appreciate it if things stayed clean for a little while at least, especially when it comes to my stuff, thank you very much!

Now, here's the after photo of my grandfather's organ. So much better, but I'm just wondering how long before stuff gets piled back on there again. :(

Spring Cleaning, A Before Photo of My Grandfather's Organ

Slowly but surely, I'm getting spring cleaning done in this house, but to be honest, there's more than just spring cleaning going on that I'll tell you about another time. Right now I'm working on cleaning up my grandfather's organ, which my oldest son who is the musician in the family, will inherit when he's 18 and has a place of his own.

The organ is pretty darn heavy and actually took two men to move it, so I don't dare move it from it's spot, but I'm at least about to clean around it, behind it, etc. I used the bench as a catch all for the books I have yet to read, but I plan to find them a new home somewhere in this house.

Here's a before photo and when I get an after photo, I'll post that as well. I'm hoping to get that done today, but I have to work outside in this insane world, so I'm not sure if that will really happen. We'll see!

So, how's your spring cleaning going? Have you started it yet? Do you ever find it difficult to get motivated to clean? Are you paring down things you don't need?I am, but it's actually hard for me because I keep finding excuses why I need to keep this and that. Sigh...

Spring is Near Declutter Without Fear

Yeah I know, what a cheesy title, right? Well over the past few days I've found myself cleaning out cabinets in the kitchen. Why did I start there? Well, because for some reason it's always the area where everything accumulates. Of course I won't stop there, but I'm taking baby steps.

In the mean time, I decided to sit down once in a while between work, fixing my van and cleaning, and watch a few videos on decluttering. I liked this one. What do you think?

Spring Ready

Getting Your Feet Ready for Spring: a Crash Course in Natural Foot Care.

There’s still snow on the ground in many places, but the optimists among us are shopping for sandals already!

Are your feet showing the effects of a long, dreary winter, shoved into thick socks and shoes and largely forgotten? Chastise yourself for just one second, resolve to do better next year, then move on and get down to business!

First, gather your supplies.

You’ll need something to soak in, something to scrub with, something to moisturize with and something to seal moisture in. Many products we use to peel, scrub and moisturize use ingredients with dubious, synthetic origins. By using good quality, natural products, you can get the same results without the chemical exposure.

The essential items you’ll need are:

  • Epsom Salts or Sea salts to soak in. (Gilden Tree offers an excellent Revitalizing Spa Soak that also includes Shea Butter Balm for moisture.)
  • Olive Oil, or if you can get it, Jojoba Oil.
  • A terra cotta Footscrubber, to be used with liquid soap, shower gel or a scrub.
  • Nourishing Foot Cream - rich, concentrated cream helps soothe and heal dry skin.

If you have the budget, add:

  • Exfoliating Foot Scrub - a creamy scrub that uses fine pumice for exfoliation.
  • 95% Shea Butter Balm - a remarkable balm to use right over Nourishing Foot Cream on really dry spots like heels and balls of feet. Also good on nails & cuticles.
  • Hand, Nail & Cuticle Salve - a rich Shea Butter cream that penetrates deeply into nails and cuticles, helping them to be softer and healthier.

Crash Course Plan (Follow every day for at least five days)

1. Soak feet for 15 minutes in a footbath or basin filled with warm water, 2 Tbsp salts and 1 Tbsp olive oil.

2. Use a wet washcloth with a few drops of liquid soap or shower gel to gently cleanse all over feet. If you have Exfoliating Foot Scrub, add 1 tsp to the cloth.

3. Add a few drops of liquid soap to the Footscrubber and gently scrub the bottoms of feet. A tsp of Exfoliating Foot Scrub also works very well with the Footscrubber.

4. Place foot back in footbath and repeat for other foot.

5. Remove first foot, dry gently and massage in about 1 tsp of Nourishing Foot Cream. If you have Shea Butter, massage a tiny, pea-sized amount into very dry places like heels and nails. If you have Hand, Nail & Cuticle Salve, it can be used the same way.

You will be amazed at the difference in your feet after just five days. From then on, just repeat the process once or twice a week and continue to use your Footscrubber and Foot Cream daily.

So, pull out your sexiest sandals and get busy!

    Spring Cleaning's Gone Fishy

Last week I started spring cleaning. The first area I decided to declutter was the front yard and porch. Since I no longer plan to do any potting, I decided to get rid of some pots that I had by putting them on a local website that gives away stuff for free to the local area.

When I went to write down all of the pots, I discovered someone had stolen one of them along with a little ceramic worm that changes color when the plant needs water. Ironically none of the other pots were taken, including the exact mate with the other worm. It's the first theft we've had in this neighborhood and at first I wondered if kids did it. But today My husband went looking for his fishing poles and found a few of them gone, so now we're not so sure.

I think it's time to up the security around this place.

    The Sand Circle

Spring Time is coming and I'm wondering if we're still here, what we'll do with the front and back yard. Right now there's not much to the front yard except for a few trees.

However, the backyard is a bit crazy. There's a lot of cement and a large sand circle area where the pool once was. I think it's time we probably did something with the backyard. it's kind of depressing when you look out your bedroom window and see blah instead of wow.

I know that there are a few plant nursery stores around here, but they don't carry much of a selection. I've wondered about ordering online and whether it's worth it or not. But then again, I doubt planting anything is an option right now since we're on a strict budget due to the economy. Sigh
