During the Winter

It's very rare that I use anything on my face in the summer months other than sun screen. but, when the winter months arrive, my skin gets really dry and my face is no exception, so I'm constantly applying a face cream to my face.

And unfortunately, because my skin is so dry, I've probably tried just about every facial cream there is on the market, that's of course reasonably priced. No matter how dry my skin gets, I just can't see paying more than $10 for any moisturizer, no matter how great they claim to be.

But, I have been known to shop the clearance section of our local drugstore for products they no longer have room for on the shelve. I've gotten some pretty pricey face creams, moisturizers, shampoos and conditioners for less than $10! How insane is that???

Science Experiements and Putting up With Jerks

Umm hgh human growth hormone products that fight against aging naturally? I don't believe it! But should you want to see for yourself, then do a little research and you may be as intrigued, yet shocked as I am.

I honestly wonder why women would want to turn back the hands of time just to impress their guy. Now don't get me wrong on this, it's one thing to want to look nice for your guy, but if he can't except the fact that you're growing old and wants you to do something about it or you've suggested on your own that you'll do something about it, you need to boot him right out the door.

Women make so many sacrifices when it comes to trying to please a man. They will bend over backwards just to get their attention and take his BS when he says, he doesn't like the way you look. And we wonder why our daughters have such little self-esteem. Seriously hun, he's just not worth it.

Beauty Schmeauty

I've never really noticed that I have wrinkles around my eyes, therefore I never really thought I needed an eye wrinkle cream. And to be quite honest, I still don't. People who talk to me all of the time believe I am only 30, when *GASPS* I'm actually 35.

My mother actually had the same experience and even took hers as far as getting into movie theaters for a kids price when she was well into her teens.lol

So what do I do to look five years younger than I actually am? Not much, to again be honest. I slather on a moisturizer when I need it and make sure my face is clean on a daily basis, but that's about it. I don't fuss with eye creams or serums or other special beauty treatments. However, I have dabbled in anti-aging products in the past, but that's about it for me.

I keep things simple and don't deal with the out of control beauty routine. It's time consuming and isn't always worth the time or money!

Moving On

Then she shoved the pill bottle in between her anti aging skin products and closed the medicine cabinet with a loud bang. Damn him for making her feel this way!

She needed away from this house, away from him! But he would know if she left. He always knew! Then a thought hit her. He would know if she took the car, but he wouldn't have any reason to keep an eye on his ATV would he?

She smiled for the first time in months as she quietly slipped out of the bathroom and down the hall to the back door. Just a few more steps. "Where the hell do you think you're going?"

She froze at his angry words, but refused to turn and face him. "A walk. I was going to go for a walk."

"Liar." She cringed at his response and then heard his footsteps approach fast and hard.

"I did not throw this party for you to abandon it. Understand?"
She nodded as she felt him jerk her hair hard enough that she was suddenly falling backwards until she was lying on the ground. Then she felt his boot slam into her stomach.

"You should have taken your pills. you'd been better off. But, I'm tired of waiting." She watched in horror as he lifted his boot from her stomach and aimed for her head. She had to move. She needed to get away. The ATV. She could reach it. It was only a few feet away.

His boot met her face and she felt something warm run down her face as she rolled toward the off road vehicle. She could make it. She had to.

Realization

She reached for the face moisturizer in the cabinet, opened the lid and applied the cream to her face and neck.

In all honesty, she really didn't mind the beauty regimen for the most part. She just wished her husband wasn't so demanding with everything that she did. She replaced the lid on the jar and placed it back in the cabinet. Her stomach growled and a hunger pain shot through her like nothing she'd ever experienced.

The sudden thought of sneaking a sandwich from the kitchen crossed her mind for a brief moment until the realization that he'd know, he always knew, brought her back to reality. You're fat. His harsh words haunted her like a ghost seeking revenge and she suddenly found herself reaching for the pills in the cabinet, just to please him.

The Price of Beauty

She let out a sigh of relief and rummaged through the medicine cabinet for her beauty regimen. Her husband spared no expense when it came to things like the top wrinkle creams and other beauty products for her. He was insistent that she keep herself looking young and beautiful. And she had no doubt that sooner or later, plastic surgery would be brought up. In fact, she was actually a little surprised that he hadn't mentioned it already.

Think All Natural

An organic face cream may seem like a better choice where the environment is concern, but just because a beauty product or any product for that matter contains organic ingredients certainly doesn't mean they're made from mother nature, let alone good for you.

All it really means is that it's free from pesticides. I mean seriously, have you taken a really good look at that product's ingredients? I've actually seen products claiming to be organic, yet in the ingredient label listed unnatural ingredients and even man-made chemicals.

And sadly, it's perfectly legal for a company to do so. So the next time you pick up that beauty cream and think it's good for you, think again and think all natural!

Beauty is in the Eye

Can you believe that prototype 37c is actually an eye cream? To be exact, it's suppose to help with wrinkles, but at what price?

Here we are worrying about how we're going to pay our next utility bill, when we've just spent our last hard earned dollar on beauty products that we're helping will make us look beautiful. Okay, so maybe not all of us are willing to choose beauty over electricity, but there are a few out there, I'm sure of it.

You would think by now we women and a few men, would learn that beauty is on the inside. If a man cannot except the way you look without all the goop and gunk, then is he really worth it. I mean if he's going to wake up screaming at your no makeup look the next morning, maybe it's time you rethink your relationship and forget the idea of looking young forever.

We have enough plastic barbie dolls in this world, we certainly don't need them living and breathing as well!

Spring Ready

Getting Your Feet Ready for Spring: a Crash Course in Natural Foot Care.

There’s still snow on the ground in many places, but the optimists among us are shopping for sandals already!

Are your feet showing the effects of a long, dreary winter, shoved into thick socks and shoes and largely forgotten? Chastise yourself for just one second, resolve to do better next year, then move on and get down to business!

First, gather your supplies.

You’ll need something to soak in, something to scrub with, something to moisturize with and something to seal moisture in. Many products we use to peel, scrub and moisturize use ingredients with dubious, synthetic origins. By using good quality, natural products, you can get the same results without the chemical exposure.

The essential items you’ll need are:

  • Epsom Salts or Sea salts to soak in. (Gilden Tree offers an excellent Revitalizing Spa Soak that also includes Shea Butter Balm for moisture.)
  • Olive Oil, or if you can get it, Jojoba Oil.
  • A terra cotta Footscrubber, to be used with liquid soap, shower gel or a scrub.
  • Nourishing Foot Cream - rich, concentrated cream helps soothe and heal dry skin.

If you have the budget, add:

  • Exfoliating Foot Scrub - a creamy scrub that uses fine pumice for exfoliation.
  • 95% Shea Butter Balm - a remarkable balm to use right over Nourishing Foot Cream on really dry spots like heels and balls of feet. Also good on nails & cuticles.
  • Hand, Nail & Cuticle Salve - a rich Shea Butter cream that penetrates deeply into nails and cuticles, helping them to be softer and healthier.

Crash Course Plan (Follow every day for at least five days)

1. Soak feet for 15 minutes in a footbath or basin filled with warm water, 2 Tbsp salts and 1 Tbsp olive oil.

2. Use a wet washcloth with a few drops of liquid soap or shower gel to gently cleanse all over feet. If you have Exfoliating Foot Scrub, add 1 tsp to the cloth.

3. Add a few drops of liquid soap to the Footscrubber and gently scrub the bottoms of feet. A tsp of Exfoliating Foot Scrub also works very well with the Footscrubber.

4. Place foot back in footbath and repeat for other foot.

5. Remove first foot, dry gently and massage in about 1 tsp of Nourishing Foot Cream. If you have Shea Butter, massage a tiny, pea-sized amount into very dry places like heels and nails. If you have Hand, Nail & Cuticle Salve, it can be used the same way.

You will be amazed at the difference in your feet after just five days. From then on, just repeat the process once or twice a week and continue to use your Footscrubber and Foot Cream daily.

So, pull out your sexiest sandals and get busy!

    Perfection isn't Wonderful

Whoever said that perfection is a wondrous thing has never met a real woman. Today as I tried to relax in the bathtub(made it 2 minutes before the first knock on the bathroom door came!), I took a good long look at all of the new scars that have suddenly and not so suddenly invaded by skin.

First there are the tiny blood vessels, mostly on my upper left thigh. And then there are the stretch marks that have left their marks from pregnancy. All the way from my tummy to my hips and thighs. And finally there are permanent razor burn looking dots all over my legs which do nothing at all for my already dry skin. And then I realized, I am far from perfect. Yet, these are the scars that prove I exist in this insane world and that I have lived life.

While not every mark has to be left in order to prove that we exist, not ever little
imperfection means that we are less than perfect either. For me, I would much rather have lived than look like a plastic doll that had no life at all.

    Free Vegan Beauty Products

I am always looking for new and delish products, so when WordVixen of Quest to Write, shared this contest on her blog and twitter, I just had to check it out. Yummy. Coffee and Kahlua lip balm... And it's Vegan! No animal fats. So very awesome. Plus there are soaps.... I love natural products.

But the real reason for this contest is because the government (don't you love that word!)is trying to pass a law that would put small beauty product companies out of business. How very nice of them! Want more info? Check out the Indie Business Blog.

If you want to enter the contest and help out a great cause, visit The Vegan Skincare Product Contest Link or check out the Vegan Skincare product page and get yourself some fabulous beauty products before the government says, NO! NO! NO!

    Real Beauty

One of the main reasons I signed up to be a part of the blog for a year campaign is to begin my website and dream in helping those who suffer with low self-esteem. Well, today I found my chance to advance in that dream/goal.

Dove Beauty is allowing women to host workshops that encourage girls to better their self-esteem.

A few minutes ago, I signed up for the workshop and DVD/CD that will allow me to help others with low self-esteem issues. I truly believe this is the start I am looking for. It actually takes a few months for the DVD/CD to arrive, but once it does, I want to talk to our local high school here about hosting a workshop for the girls here. If that goes well, I'd like to host workshops for the other high schools in our area. I also want to start an online blog for all of this. I am really excited about this project. I believe this could be a start of something awesome. To better our outlook at true beauty. I have so many other ideas about this project that it's almost unreal! I can't wait to get started!

If you're interested in hosting your own Dove Beauty Workshop check out their page at: Campaign For Real Beauty. If you do decide to host a workshop I would love to know about it! By the way, in case you're wondering, it's all free. :)

What Men Consider Beautiful. Dare I Dream?

I've always had a love for beauty as far back as junior high. At one point in my life (I think right around junior high, actually) I even wanted to go to cosmetology school. It was a way for me to allow others to feel good about themselves. I see it as a wonderful thing when others who have experienced low self-esteem at some time in their life, are finally able to smile and love the way they feel and look about themselves.

One thing that has always baffled me is, how men see women and their true beauty. What do they find beautiful in a woman. I was actually surprised at their answers and I think you will too. So, I wanted to share this with you. Let me know what you think.

    Fight Girls on the Prowl

Soo there's this new series called, "Fight Girls." It airs on Oxygen TV. For me the show was love at first site. I'm not a fighter, but I've always loved watching fights. At one point I even considered taking up kickboxing. While I don't have cable television, I did get to see the very first episode of the show.... thanks to She Speaks, where I am able to provide feedback on products and shows. Very Cool! So the first match is between Gina and some unlikable chick named Felice. I don't know, but after watching the first episode, Felice just doesn't seem like a really great person I'd want to get to know. Instead I was all for Gina, but unfortunately she wound up with a serious cramp in her foot and just couldn't hold it against Felice in the fight. Sigh. I think Gina is still great however, and wish her the best of luck in the future!

On to another interesting thing... I lightened my hair with a product my boss would like me to review. I like to color, but the rest of the house house has insisted on calling me carrot top. Sigh. No matter what they think, it's not a bright orange red. It's a reddish brown. Maybe a little like Grace's from the tv show, Will and Grace. I don't know. I can't really give an exact idea of the color. I don't know why that name bothers me so much. After all it's just a name. Still it does.

Okay, time for me to get to bed. I have work to do tomorrow and I'm hoping I'll be able to get it done along with everything else the household will insist upon.lol Hope everyone had a great 4th of July. Mine consisted of sitting at home due to the recent flooding and ban of fireworks, but it all turned out great in the end. :)

Tomorrow is Going to be a Very Long Day

I'll probably be getting up before everyone else, aside from my fiance. He has to work at 5am, which means the alarm will be going off a 230am! Ohhh what fun!!! So yeah, I'm going to be up at 5am. It's fine though. it's a nice quiet time when the kids will be asleep and I'll be able to catch up on some extra work. I could use all of the work I can get right now. Soo much to do and not enough money it seems.

Speaking of which, when I have time... I'd like to get on the topic of making money.. I'm not talking about the work your ass off type of jobs, but those get rich schemes. You know the ones. More about those later though.

I'd also like to dig deeper into the topic of real beauty. It's an issue that I've had an interest in for a very long time. As a matter of fact I went as far as creating an e-zine because of it. I have sooo many ideas, but there never seems to be enough time.
