Woman Stuck on Toilet For Two Years

A while back our local newspaper reported on a Kansas woman who had been stuck to her toilet seat for almost two years. From what I gather, the woman was afraid to leave her boyfriend's bathroom due to a fear of leaving the house.

After being on the toilet for so long, her skin grew to the toilet seat. It was enough of a concern that her boyfriend FINALLY called 911 to get help. How insane is that?? Why he didn't call sooner, I will never understand. her boyfriend will face charges and authorities are debating whether to charge him for mistreatment.

Silent Cries. A Look at Domestic Abuse

A few months ago I was giving the opportunity by Shelby Sledge of Phenix & Phenix to review a book that actually hits home for me. The book, "Silent Cries" by Lisa J. Peck, is about one woman's struggle with domestic violence. Below is my review.

Silent Cries by Lisa J. Peck

It's too easy to think that a simple slap in the face or grasp of a wrist isn't abuse. It's too easy to assume that shaking a fist in the face or threatening to hurt someone isn't abuse. It's too easy to think that the person you love isn't really an abuser or a victim of abuse.

In "Silent Cries", Charlene is a mother and a wife to those around her, but behind closed doors she is a victim of domestic abuse. Through emails to her friend Judy, she slowly begins to realize that her husband isn't the wonderful man she always thought he was.

Soon Charlene breaks free from her husband's grasp, but what she thinks is a simple road ahead of her will prove that things are never as easy as they seem. Slowly she begins to re-discover what life is truly like and face her greatest fear of all, "falling in love again."

"Silent Cries" is a must read no matter who you are. If you have ever been in an abusive relationship, if you still are, or even if you may think you know of someone who is, this book is for you.

The characters may be fictional, but these are true fears based on what goes on behind the closed doors of domestic abuse.

It's a subject that should not be ignored and Author Lisa J. Peck is no stranger to that. As a matter of fact she has been a victim of abuse herself. She is a true inspiration in both writing and in life.

One final Note: Please remember that domestic abuse does not have to be physical. Emotional abuse can be just as dangerous. I know because I am a survivor of emotional abuse.

Why I Will Never Visit St. Paul, Minnesota

Yesterday our local paper printed an article that stunned me. I realize that there are a lot of screwed up people in this world, but since when do witnesses to a woman's cry for help stand by, watch and do nothing. That is exactly what happened to a 26 year old woman who was sexually assaulted by a man in an apartment complex in St. Paul, Minnesota.

For 90 minutes the women was sexually assaulted while residents of the apartment complex ignored her cries for help. People were stepping outside of the door to see what was going on, but no one was willing to call the police to help.  One man even walked by, stopped for a moment to watch the assault and then simply moved on.

It disgusts me how people are willing to ignore those who are in need of help. The surprising thing is, the state of Minnesota actually has a law that is supposed to protect innocent citizens by making it a misdemeanor offense when a witness does not give reasonable help to a person in danger. Yet, the city will probably not prosecute those who ignored her cries because they would have to go out of their way to prove that those witnesses heard or saw the women's cries for help. Now here's the kicker. All of this was caught on security camera.

It angers me that people were unwilling to help someone in danger. It angers me even more that the city just doesn't give a shit about their own laws. I bet it if were someone important who was in trouble and witnesses ignored it, every one of those witnesses would be prosecuted in a heart beat!

I'll keep my distance from St. Paul, Minnesota... Thank You very much....

Is This Really a Guy's Worst Nightmare

If you think you're favorite female celebrity is a bombshell with all of that makeup, what will you think when she's all natural? Will you still think she is still just as beautiful? Or will you turn her down because she's just the average girl next door?

If you would still see her as the same, do you see the librarian with glasses or that shy lunch lady or bus driver, just as beautiful?

The next time you find yourself in the presence of a woman, remember that makeup is only an illusion of an already beautiful woman.

She Wasn't Born a Supermodel

I can't stress enough how we must be perfect to be beautiful. This is what the media sees, this is what our youth sees. It's not true! We do not have to be perfect because we are already beautiful. Each in our own way. Don't let those magazines fool you. Here's a great example from Dove Evolution of just how a supermodel is made. Thanks goes out to http://www.jodiebsblog.blogspot.com/ for the video! Check it out!
