Mid-Week November Financial Update

Because of the holidays I've been way behind in both posting and working and job opportunities online have been rare. I also had to use the credit card that is not a closed account to get my husband's glasses.

Usually when we pick up glasses from the eyewear shop, they've already filed his insurance and we get a check to pay for the glasses. Well for some reason this time, they didn't file his insurance. So in order to get his glasses we had to pay half down. Unfortunately half down was nearly half of what my husband and I make in a week, so we couldn't afford it out of pocket. So, I had to use the credit card.

The good news is, just as soon as we do get the check from the insurance company, that amount will go back on the credit card. Well, that is unless, something else goes wrong, sigh.

Here is a breakdown of what I've made online for the last two weeks of November.

November 15-30th

Payu2blog: $30.00
Payperpost: $27.50
SocialSpark: $7.04
Adbrite: $0.00
Kontera: $0.00

Total: $64.54

New Eyeglasses

Last week we had to buy glasses for the hubby's son. Usually we buy the eyeglasses in the same building where the eye doctor is. However, the last time we went shopping for glasses we decided to try to save some money. While we did save money, we had a scare that the new shop we purchased from might have gotten the prescription wrong. It turned out that they didn't. Still, it took us a while to get the information because they tried to argue they could not give out the info the doctor or us. Basically they were protecting their butts in case they did make a mistake.

So this past week we went back to the shop we're used to buying from and were sort of regretting it. After everything was said and done the eyeglasses were nearly $200! We're at least lucky that they have a payment plan.

It's scary however that eyeglasses can get so expensive! A while back I was doing some research online and found that Zenni Optical is pretty darn reasonable when it comes to eyeglasses. Zenni always has some great prices going on. For example their selection of glasses start out at only $8! That's nearly as reasonable as a gallon of milk around here! So I keep telling myself that I need to show the hubby their website and see what he thinks! One of these days!

Lasik Surgery

One of the things I have asked my husband about in the past was whether or not he would opt for a lasik surgery since he wears glasses. While I know the thought has crossed his mind, he has always said that he probably would never qualify for the procedure.

I know his vision is really bad, but he's also able to see shapes and shadows without his glasses. Actually I think he can see a little more since I've caught him reading one of my magazines without his glasses. So I'm sure he would actually qualify for something like, lasik surgery.

I actually checked into the procedure for myself several years ago, but as it turns out I don't need lasik surgery. As a matter of fact, my eyesight I was told is just getting better and better as I age. So when everyone else is in bifocals, I'll have nearly perfect vision. How cool is that??

But, I’m still wondering if my husband would be interested in the surgeryand want more LASIK information. I know he has problems at times with his glasses fogging up and then there is the risk of his glasses getting scratched at work. Sooo, I wonder if he checks out the latest in
LASIK technology will he change his mind?

A Warning about Special Sale Ads

Every year my step-daughter has to have her eyes examined for new glasses. This year my husband decided to try a local shop for her eyeglasses. The shop was having a special on eyewear and you could supposedly by a pair for less than $30, lenses included.

Well, as it turns out the special was only on select frames which no parent in their right mind would put a kid in. And since the shop wasn't sure if they could take my husband's insurance or not, we ended up paying nearly $100 for a pair of glasses, out of pocket.

Then I keep think about other options for eyeglasses. I remember doing a post a while back for
ZenniOptical.com. I loved their prices. You could purchase a pair of eyewear for an insane $8. Heck, just recently they were on fox news and US talk radio. So people are really starting to take notice of their fabulously insane prices! I mean, who wouldn't??

So now I am wondering if my husband would be interesting in purchasing her glasses or his there. I mean if we’re not able to use our insurance for eyeglasses, then we might as well find the lowest possible prices. Don’t you think?

Glasses on a Tight Budget

It's been a long time since my husband has had new glasses and I know he's due up for a pair very soon. I wonder what sort of frames he will get next? With finances the way they are at the moment, looking for the best reasonable frames is a must. Places like zennioptical.com have some really nice frame selections and they don't charge an arm and a leg for them either. Kinda nice since the budget is very tight. The good news is, my husband has a good eyewear prescription plan at work, so that will definitely help keep our finances in check. The only downside is, they only pay up to so much.

Kids and Glasses

Yesterday a friend of mine was telling me his youngest son is now having to wear glasses. It's a shame that he has to wear glasses at such an early age, but it's to be expected since my friend has to wear them.

I don't think his son will have a need for designer style eyeglasses from LBW eyewear right now, but maybe dad wouldn't mind a pair. They have some really cute eyeglasses and even some cute sunglasses. All of their eyeglasses come with free a anti-scratch and uv coating, free lens cleaning cloth and case and even a warranty for you glasses. How insane is that?

Worried about prices? I saw that they have several pairs of eyeglasses for under $20! There's even a pair that are very similar to what the Harry Potter character wears!

Cheap Eyes!!!!

Both my husband and step-daughter wear glasses. Every time we visit the eye doctor to get new glasses we spend anywhere from $200 or more per a visit for new glasses and a case. While the store my husband uses does gives away the case when you buy a pair of glasses, they certainly don't offer $8 for complete prescription eyeglasses like Great Discovery: www.ZenniOptical.com does!

I am honestly not sure how they can offer such a low price, but it's definitely worth checking into.
