Photo of the Week -Wednesday Madness

Over the weekend as dramatic changes were being made (aka remodeling a rotted front porch) , the sudden appearance of a little bird found it's final resting place on the tool bed of Green Arrow ' s truck. It hadn't been there moments before and no commotion from it's natural enemy of a feline or other bird prey had caused this bird to suddenly appear. Was it perhaps natural causes or something more?

Green Arrow ' s thoughts were something a little more creepy such as a warning sign of an apocalypse or a restless spirit. His reasoning behind these thoughts:

1) About 3 months prior, a friendly dog who did not belong in the neighborhood suddenly fell over in passing in the driveway next door. Only moments before he had been playing and appeared perfectly healthy. His owner verified his healthy state the very next day after  discovering he had been missing and learning of his whereabouts.

2) About a month ago a music box that was locked away in a glass cabinet suddenly started playing one night as we were all sitting in the family room watching a movie.

Soo about that bird.... Thoughts anyone?

Until Now

The motor of the vacuum roared to life with the flip of a switch, then coughed and sputtered like the old man across the road already on his 2nd bottle of whiskey and a half a pack of smokes.

There were two kinds of cleaners in this world. The kind that made homes look shiny and clean.  And the kind that let you eat off the floors. The 115334 vacuum motor was neither one.

It had too much pride and wasn't about to become someone's play toy, tucked away inside some dark and lonely closet at the end of the day. No. It was better than that.

It was the kind that you found sucking up the blood off the floors where dead bodies had laid only moments before.
The kind that caused the low life, the scum, the worst of the worst to stand up and take notice.

If you didn't, if by even the slightest chance you didn't? Well, let's just say you'd end up being a part of that dead body count it was racking up, faster than the flies could get to them.

Course it made no difference to that blood sucking machine whether you were a criminal or not. If you were in its path, you had no choice but to be its next victim. There were no survivors.

Or so it thought. Now, here I am, telling you what I know, what I see and what it wants me to see.

A Haunting

I rented A Haunting in Connecticut a few nights ago. It had been recommended by a friend of the hubby's at our local Blockbuster because I'm always looking for a really good horror movie. As it turns out, she was right. Although it wasn't as creepy as I thought it would be, there was a twist to the ending and the idea of it being based on true events made it even more interesting.

However, one thing I must caution. The movie's rating says PG-13 so if you have children near that age I would wait until they're closer to 16 before you let them watch the movie unless they can really handle it. There are some scenes in the movie that were a big ewwwww and whoa. Okay, you have been warned.

They Just Gotta Scare The Crap Outta Me

It's been a while since I have seen a really good horror movie. The last one I viewed was good, but a sequel twice over. After a while sequels tend to lose their touch and it's too easy to guess who did it and what's going to happen next.
What I have really noticed lately is that most of the recent horror movies are not horror at all. They're all about the blood and guts. I honestly don't mind blood and guts, but where are the days when a horror movie would scare the crap out of you? I love those!

I would love to see a really good horror movie that is determined to scare the crap out of me again. I am hoping that the new movie, Frontier(s) will do just that. Interestingly enough this acclaimed horror movie goes beyond any other movie by showing viewers the unrated version right in the theater. Not on dvd, but in the theater. How insane is that???

The previews look pretty good and just by the glimpse of the trailer I saw, I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone who is under 17 years of age. I believe most horror movies shouldn't be viewed by 17 and under anyway, but Frontier(s) goes way beyond any regular old horror movie I've seen in the recent years.

The closest I can dare compare Frontier(s) to when it comes to movies is the Saw Trilogies. Yet even though it may have a similar likeness to the Saw movies, it really doesn't come close. The only part I am not so keen on is the fact that this movie is in French with English Subtitles.

If you're looking for a good horror movie, Frontier(s) may be it. Looks like it's already playing in select theaters since it's release date was may 9th, so check your theater for local times and listings.

If you're not able to find it at a theater near you, don't worry. Frontier(s) will be available on DVD by May 13th!

The King is Back.

No, I'm not talking about the King of Rock and Roll. I am talking about the King of Horror!

It's been a while since I have seen a good horror movie and nothing beats a good scare like Stephen King so, I'm really excited about The Mist by Stephen King. While it does kind of reminds me a little of "The Storm" and "The Stand", I still can't wait to see the movie!

Speaking of "The Stand", I must say that it is my favorite novel/movie. There's no particular reason why it's my favorite. It just is. Carrie is another favorite of mine. So is Christine. There is just something about Stephen King's older works that has me addicted.

I must admit that I am not a big fan of his later works. After reading "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" I was very disappointed. After that, things just went down hill and I lost interest. I was so sure he'd lost his craft for writing horror. I mean after all, there's only so much you can write about before it's all been done or you're burned out. I know that from experience!

But, after seeing the trailer for his latest thriller, "The Mist", I'm looking forward to enjoying his work all over again. I certainly doubt that I will be disappointed and if you're a fan of Stephen King I doubt you'll be disappointed either!

Halloween By Rob Zombie!

Okay, I already know this movie is going to be great! Halloween the movie - and directed by none other than Rob Zombie! If you have no idea who Rob Zombie is, maybe you remember “House of 1000 Corpses” and “The Devil's Rejects,” both movies by Rob Zombie, of course! If you haven’t seen either of those, run to your nearest video store and rent them tonight!

While “House of 1000 Corpses” was a good movie, I think “The Devil’s Rejects” was by far his best work. Now of course I could be wrong, especially when the release of his movie, Halloween the movie hit’s theaters August 31st!

I am actually really excited about this. I absolutely love horror movies and I have always loved the Halloween movies. I am hoping Rob Zombie will take this classic to a whole new level. It’s already obvious that this movie involves Michael Myer’s past. Just from the previews this movie already looks exciting! I am really looking forward to seeing what Rob Zombie has done for “Halloween The Movie.”

I’m actually surprised however, that they did not wait to release this until October 31st. I think this would have been the perfect time for this movie! Not to worry though, I’ll be there August 31st! Hope to see you there too!
