New Story Ideas

I've been going through some writing notes in my desk drawer that I'd been meaning to get into the computer. I thought I would share a bit of one of the story ideas I've been working on. What do you think so far?

She held the coffee cup in her hands and watched the lightning strike down out of the sky, as if it were angry at someone or something. It was nights like these that she cherished. Very few could understand and many accused her of being a witch. She would never understand why some people think the way they do. Why fear a thunderstorm and make those who enjoyed them into something just as feared. To her, storms brought a sense of calming. It was better than a day at the spa. Something she’d never really indulged in, but knew was true.

Another streak of lightning struck down from the sky and for a moment the entire night sky lit up. How could someone not enjoy such a beautiful sight. The shrill of the telephone interrupted the moment and she set the coffee cup down and reached for the receiver.

“Hello?” From the other end was silence and then a faint static was her only response.

“Hello?” Silence again and the same static. It was almost as if the static was saying hello back to her.

“Great.” She sighed and said the receiver back down into the cradle of the telephone. The phone lines were down. She hoped the call was an important and could wait until the storm cleared. She started to reach for her coffee cup when the telephone rang again. Picking up the receiver she muttered a quick hello only to get the same silence and static from before.

“Damn it!” She slammed the receiver into the cradle and yanked the phone cord from the telephone’s jack. She was not about to be annoyed by the shrill of the telephone all night long. She picked up her coffee cup and press the realm of the cup to her lips. The shrill of the telephone echoed in her ears. She froze. Ring. Ring. Ring. She slowly set down the coffee cup and hesitantly reached for the receiver. Ring. Ring. Ring. She stared at the telephone cord. It was still unplugged.

With a shaky hand, she picked up the receiver. “Hell-o?” The same silence and then faint static echoed through the line.

“What do you want?” As if it were responding, the static echoed. She slammed the receiver into the cradle and threw the phone across the room.

He stepped off the bus and onto the curb, the sun beating down on him. It had been four long years since he’d been home. He tossed his black leather jacket over his shoulder and ran hand for his greased hair. For a second he wondered why he did ever came back. They’d sent him away, they didn’t want him here. He eyed the drugstore across the road and smiled. Not much had changed it seemed. He crossed the road, steps inside the drugstore and nodded at old Mr. Hampton, the owner.

“Can I borrow the telephone?” The old man seemed off in a trance, so he figured he’d help himself. “Just going to borrow the telephone, ok?”

He picked up the receiver and dialed the number he knew by heart. The line rang once and the operator picked up. “ I’d like to make a call to Esther Churchem.” He said.

“Hello?” The operator responded.

“Yeah. I want to call Esther Churchem.” He tried again.

“Hello?”

“I said-” the operator hung up. He stared at the telephone stunned, but then rang the operator again.

“Hello?”

“Yeah, you hung up on me.” He said.

“Hello?”

“Uhh.” The phone clicked and silence. He stared in anger and rang the phone again. He was going to give her a piece of his mind this time.

“Hello?” The operator responded.

“Listen, I don’t like games.” He said.

“What do you want?” She asked.

“I want to-” he stopped. The familiar click and then silence. He slammed the telephone into the receiver and stormed out of the store was out looking back. As he ever saw that operator he was going to give her a piece of his mind. It was a 2-mile walk to grandmother Esther's house.

The Cancellation

Alayna muttered a cruse under her breath and glared at the girl behind the ticket counter.

"I'm sorry, but in order to book a flight with our airlines, you must have Blue Cross short term insurance."

"But that's ridiculous and I can't afford it, and I've already reserved the ticket!" Alayna argued.

"That's not a problem, miss. We can just cancel your reservation and all you have to do is pay the cancellation fee." The girl smiled.

This was just not happening. Could things get any worse? She turned to her best friend who'd already purchased his ticket in the line next to her.

"Sorry Hun." He shrugged.

This was, she decided, the worst day of her entire miserable life.

A Vampire Story I Want to Write in the Future

Just a few bits a pieces of another story I want to write, mostly dialogue for now. The Brothers are both vampires, if it's not already obvious.

"You have to go." Adrian said.

"No." Katherine replied.

"You have no choice."

"I won't leave you." She said.

He hesitated for a moment, then his eyes flared. He had no choice. He knew he would never hurt her. Never. "Get out now!"

At first she was stunned, but then he saw the sadness in her eyes. His heart broke. He wanted to comfort her, to hold her in his arms and apologize for his words. For one brief moment. But those silent words were broken by the door busting open. It was too late. With one swift move, Adrian shielded her from his brother's fury.

"She is mine!" Kage said.

"I will not let you have her." Adrian replied angrily.

"You cannot stop me."

The Meeting. A Short to a Story I Am Working On

The muscular, balded man, put on the julbo sunglasses and pushed open the coffee shop's door. Before he'd even stepped inside, he knew were staring at him. Wondering why the sunglasses inside and why today when the sun was in hiding and Mother Nature's skies threatened rain.

He had no choice. He needed to stay hidden from the world. If the people knew, he would be shunned. Attacked. But that did not matter as much as the woman sitting in a corner booth of the shop, alone, mattered. She was waiting, hoping and as he approached her table, she looked up with a shy smile.

"I told you I would be here." He said. She nodded and traced the rim of her coffee cup that sat on the table in front of her.

"You know I can't have you interfering with my plans." He said. Again she nodded, then picked up the cup , drank its contents and slowly set the cup back down.

"So you're ready to die?"He asked with a heavy sigh. It was going to be difficult for him. She was after all his flesh and blood, his sister, his twin. He took the sunglasses off of his face and set them on the table, then revealed the blade he'd had hidden inside the shirt of his sleeve.

He watched her eyes shift to the blade and started to smile in the pleasure of her fear, when he realized she had not flinched, had not shown that fear he loved and fed on in his victims. Instead, she showed no fear, something he pondered why until suddenly her eyes shifted to her lap as she brought her right hand up to reveal her own weapon of choice. A long sword he'd recognized on the wall of their father's study.

"I'm stopping you brother. No more killing. No more victims. It ends right here." He let out a laugh that echoed through the small coffee shop. His sister stop him? Ha she was just a librarian. Scared of everything, of everyone. Scared of the world they lived in.

He had nothing to fear. But as soon as those words crossed his mind, she shifted her gaze once more and a look of pure dark hatred stared back at him. She was not ready to die.

Ya, I'd Rather Not Tell the Rest of the Story

In case you're wondering why I haven't posted any more of my novel, The Generation, on my blog, it's because of copyright infringements and people stealing my work. I know that may sound harsh, but believe it or not I've already had someone copy another work of mine and claim it as theirs. And believe me every time I see my work with their name on it, it really ticks me off beyond words.

Unfortunately, as a lawyer has told me, there's not really anything I can do since I never had a copyright protection put on it and the original work is written with no way of verifying the dates. I can verify that I wrote it when I was a senior in H.S., but doesn't do me much good now.

So as far as The Generation is concerned, I'm learning by my mistakes and taking a family member's advice this time around. I can tell you this much, I have been adding more to the novel and hopefully it will be complete before the next 10 years.lol

The Cause

"You want to follow me?" He asked pointing her away from the rooster who was now crowing and seemed very content with making noise than worrying about being tied to the pole.

She started to shake her head at the handsome man until he chuckled at her reaction and said, "Don't worry. I know you're a volunteer. I'm a head volunteer, so I get to show all the new people the ropes."

She nodded and then smiled as he led the way as he continued his conversation. "There are a lot of people here that need our help. Thank you for being a part of this by the way. I just hope we're not too late. We're losing them to the drug more and more by the hours."

“Yes. Can you believe a simple thing that claimed to be the best weight loss pills in the drug industry did all of this?” She said as she followed him to a table covered with medical supplies.

He stopped, then turned toward her, lowered his voice and said, “To be quite honest, no. I think there’s something else causing all of this, miss. I’m sorry. I didn’t quite catch your name.”

“It’s Hope Conwell. And please tell me more.” She whispered.

The Identity

Allie nodded as he grabbed her hand and pulled her inside of the closet. She wanted to ask if this was his idea of a joke until he had pushed a panel from the wall away revealing a long dark and narrow set of stairs.

“Watch your step.” He said as they descended down the cold concrete steps. The stairs led to the back exit of the warehouse the same exit she had found earlier. In a matter of seconds they were outside in the chilling night air unnoticed by anyone. There was only one thing that still sat in the back of her mind and now was the time she realized. She had to know.

Clearing her throat she asked “The guy that stabbed you was he there tonight?”

“Yes.” He said not stopping. Allie cringed at that thought as she followed Matt into the dark cold night.

Another Quick Peek of Yet Another Novel I'm Working On

Andy Philips grinned at Allie Trenton’s foster parents. They nodded in approval to his boyish charm and good looks as they saw it. To Allie he was an overweight college slob too horny for his own good who needed a good dose of acne lotion. She wasn’t thrilled with the choice they had made. Something suggested from a neighbor, his aunt just down the street. She was never allowed to choose her own dates or even friends. One of her parents many rules.

They were strict only because they wanted her money. She had been in their foster care since birth, Allie’s birth parents had given her up, never to be heard from again. Allie‘s foster father was a “Be back here by nine.” Her mother called after them.

He smiled and waved to them until they were gone and then turned to Allie.

“Well now, aren’t they just the happy couple.” He laughed.

“Greedy that’s all.”

“So we’re off to party.” He grinned.

“I thought it was pizza and a movie.” She said to him. He was a nervous driver as his hands shook on the steering wheel Allie noted.

“Hot babes, a few brewskies and a lot of friends. I’m a real popular man.” Wondering if he was the laugh of the party she put on her best smile and prayed the rest of the night would end quickly.

A Quick Peek at Another Novel I Will Be Working On

“More coffee Katie Scott?”

Katie turned toward the roboserver and shook her head. “No thank you.”

“Very well.” The roboserver acknowledged then moved on to the table behind her. She was such a klutz. This would be the second shirt in less than a week that would end up in the rag pile as a result of her clumsiness. Katie let out a sigh and continued to blot up the coffee on her shirt with a napkin. She couldn’t afford another new shirt. A silly thought ran through her head. Maybe she should just give up drinking all together. No more coffee, soda, tea, no more ruined shirts.
An alert bulletin scrolled across all of the screens mounted on the tv stands causing Katie to stop and take notice at one of the screens above her.

It couldn't be. A chill ran down her spine. It was. "5 hours ago at about 1am this morning a young woman was discovered raped and murdered inside her home. At approximately 2:19am this morning two other women were discovered raped and murdered 4 blocks away. The suspect is said to be wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt. No information is available as to who the suspect is yet."

She knew exactly who the suspect was. It was twin brother and it wouldn't be long until she was his next victim.

The Job

Georgia took the prepaid visa card out of her wallet and handed it to the cashier. The faster she could get out of this place, the faster she would be back home safe and sound in her apartment. If it hadn't been for that damned teenage kid she'd hired to run her errands, she wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

She had too much on her plate and didn't need another distraction to delay her next job. She watched the puzzled look on the cashier's face as she handed the card back to her and said, "I'm sorry, but your balance says zero dollars. Would you like to add funds to the card?"

Georgia shook her head in response to the cashier's question and let out a heavy sigh. She hated using a prepaid, but it was the only way she couldn't be traced and she expected all of her clients to honor her prepay request. This client apparently hadn't. And it didn't take much knowledge to know it meant he wasn't going to pay her for this job.

Georgia's bitterness turned to anger as she walked away without a word to the cashier and headed out of the store. No one bailed on payment. No one. And the teenage kid tied up in the trunk of her car was proof enough of that. She just hoped no one could smell his fresh dead corpse from the blasted heat wave.

What Writing is Really All About

I've always said that my passion is my writing. But lately I've discovered that's not quite true. While I still love writing, there are some limits to it on what I am really passionate about. Yes, I write for a living and while I enjoy it for the most part, there are times when I get so damned frustrated that I'm ready to call it quits and take a nice long vacation. However, it's simply not possible since I cannot afford to do so anytime soon.

What really fires up my soul when it comes to writing is my love for creating stories. it's what I started out doing at the age of 5 and continued through high school and a few years beyond that. Then suddenly when the real world hit, I stopped. I found that I had no time and no energy for anything other than work and it's still that way for the most part.

But lately I've realized that because my passion has taken a backseat, I no longer enjoy writing as much as I use to and my work and at-home life is suffering because of it. So not too long ago I was flipping through a magazine when I saw a writing contest and said to myself, "Why Not!" "What have I really got to lose?" So somewhere inside the fire is still burning and I'm hoping that it will grow bigger and bigger soon. I guess that first step is the writing contest, then onto another, then back to my novel and after that, who knows! But, right now I'm simply a rambler who needs to end this post.

Once in a Blue Moon

Not too long ago I was given the opportunity to review Author Eileen Goudge's latest novel, Once in a Blue Moon. Okay first let me be really honest. I'm not big into just any romance novel (isn't that insane?) and well this one... is really more about the relationship of two sisters. Still, when I first heard about the book it intrigued me.

So imagine having to raise yourself when you're just a kid and then having to raise your baby sister when you're still just a kid. Well, that's what happens to Lindsay who must care for her sister Kerrie Ann since their mother isn't responsible enough to be a parent. The good news is, Lindsay is not alone and with an ex-stripper's help, she is able to keep Kerrie Ann safe from harm for the most part.

But then, her mother is arrested for dealing drugs and the girls are sent to foster care and placed in separate homes. And while Lindsay finds a family who loves and nurtures her, Kerrie Ann isn't so lucky and soon takes the same path as her mother, losing her own child in the process.

Now, Kerrie Ann needs help and her sister whom she hasn't seen in thirty years is her only hope to regain custody of her daughter and get her life straight. But the sisters clash in almost every way possible making things very difficult. While Lindsay is calm and soft-hearted, Kerrie Ann is loud and speaks her mind even when it isn't for the best.

In the end, the sisters must not only fight for what they each believe in, they must also fight to regain the sisterhood they once had and so desperately need.

It was wonderful to see that Author Eileen Goudge kept most of the characters from the past into the present and didn't change them too much. While there was some differences, there wasn't a big wow shocker when it came to the characters or the plot. And while I did enjoy reading Once in a Blue Moon, I must admit I wasn't too fond of Kerrie Ann's boyfriend having an almost exact background as Kerrie herself.

I understand the need for acceptance and needing a way to bring that into the story, but it just didn't seem real enough. Also if you walk into a drug dealer's house and haven't been on the loop in years, the dealer isn't going to fear you and give out whatever information you want without a fight no matter how much of an idiot he really is. So there were some moments that just weren't really believable.

Other than that, I thought the storyline was really good and I liked the characters. Lindsay I can actually relate to and oddly enough Kerrie Ann's character happens to be my best friend. So if you're looking for a little bit of romance and sisterly drama, I'd say this book is right up your alley! Bravo Eileen for a novel well done!
If you want to know more about the book or the author you can visit Eileen on Facebook or you can add her to Twitter. Now if that's not enough to keep fans happy, I don't know what is!

Help

"Have you ever heard of motorhome insurance?" The man asked the insurance agent who seemed distracted by her broken nail tip. She looked up at the man and cringed as if he was a monster from some horror movie.

"Of Course." She tried to put on a smile, but it was even obvious to him that it was fake.

"I'm interested in purchasing some for my RV." He said dropping a wad of cash on the desk in front of her.

"Ooookaay." She said staring at the cash. He knew exactly what she was thinking. He was some creep who'd just robbed someone and was pulling a fast one on her to distract her while he robbed the insurance agency. Of course she was wrong, but he would never be able to convince her of that.

So instead, he gripped the handle of the knife he held behind his back and said, "I'm not here to hurt you, I need your help."

Another Part of the ID

She closed her eyes and choked back a sob. He might not find her here, but he knew where she lived and if her Uncle had anything to say about it, it would be her dental implants Plano the police would need to identify her by, not Andy's.

“Fine you stupid bitch, your parents will hear from me!” His footsteps faded. He was gone. The heavy breathing continued. Allie panicked. Someone else was in the room with her.

Backing against the wall Allie froze in terror. Something familiar pressed against her. It was a light switch. She could risk it or feel her way to the door again and pray to god she didn’t bump into whoever was in the room with her. Before she could change her mind, she found herself reaching for the light switch.

Deep blue eyes stared back at her. Their owner, the guy she had seen earlier dressed in jeans and the black leather jacket leaned against a sink and smiled weakly.

“Oh my god! you’re hurt.” Allie sucked in a breath staring in disbelief. His tee-shirt was soaked in a dark red stain. Blood. His jacket lay in the floor beside him.

“Hey sweetheart most people know the meaning of knock before you enter.” He said.

The Chip

The Los Angeles county police department's Corporate flash drive looked easy enough to crack, but then again who was she fooling. Today's technology had too many protective shields and this one certainly looked like one of them.

Yet she knew she had no choice but to hack it because if she didn't he would keep killing until he was through or there was no one left to kill and chances of him being through, wasn't likely.

Katie pushed her glasses up that had slid down her nose and began typing away at the keyboard. She had less than a minute before they realized she was trying to hack into their drive, but with luck she'd be in and out in less than 30 seconds, that is if she could hack it.

She glanced at the clock and typed a string of numbers and letters into the computer's data base. Now it was a waiting game. If the computer opened up she'd be in and out without being noticed, if it locked down, they would be at the library in no time.

She watch the countdown begin. 5, 4, 3, 2 this was it, 1. ACCESS DENIED. Katie froze at the words. It would only be a matter of time before the police showed up. Before they placed a chip in her brain. But what did it matter. Her brother was on a killing spree and without her, there was no stopping him.

Book Publishing

If for some reason I don't find a publisher in time for my book "The Generation", I've thought about just publishing it myself. If I do that though I'm wondering if I'll need some sort of business like Total Merchant Services to help me take credit card payments and keep track of customers who've ordered a print copy and customers who've ordered an e-book copy.

At the moment I'm not even sure what self-publishing company to go with, so I guess I'd better figure that out first, huh? LOL Well, now that the hubby's off work he's been antsy to do a lot of fishing, so time for me to wrap this up and head out the door.

The Generation Chapter 5

For those of you who have been reading my novel, "The Generation", I'm now offering Chapter 5 in it's entirety for a Donation fee of at least $1.00. I know it might not seem like much, but I actually broke it down to what you would pay at a bookstore for the book in it's entirety. If you would like to donate more, then that's wonderful. Or if you would like to just wait for the book when it is published, that's fine too. I'm just offering a new option for those who are reading the story and don't want to wait! Once I receive your donation I will email you the chapter along with a receipt.

Acting Dreams and Writing My Novel

There are a lot of goals that I want to accomplish in my life. At one time, acting was one of them. I had actually gotten as far as heading to modeling school, but after graduation acting was never brought up with the company. It was a bit of a disappointment.

Eventually I moved to Las Vegas and then considered a move to California. However, I moved back to the midwest due to family issues. So I don't really know if I'll ever get a chance to do any acting.

I will however publish my novel one of these days and when I do, I hope to see it on the big screen. That may be a big stretch, but maybe a small moving making company might run across it, you know?

Anyway, I'm rambling. The reason I was thinking about all of that was because of my DVD burner. I've never used it and wondered if I would ever have the opportunity to do so. Right now I don't even have a good video camera to record with.lol I have however seen a lot of online websites like Burn2DVD.com that will allow people who don't have a burner to burn DVDs. Pretty cool, but I don't know too many people who don't already have a built in one in their laptop or computer! Still, it's a neat idea and once again I'm rambling.lol
