Going Eco-Friendly

For years we've been abusing our planet. Plastics that aren't recyclable, oils that are poisonous to our waters and computers that are destroying our ozone layer. But it wasn't until recently that we began to notice just how seriously our misuse of products has cost us with the threat of global warming.

Now that global warning is upon us, we have to take our environment seriously. There’s no more pretending that everything will be okay because to be honest, it won’t. We already know that recycling our plastics, paper and glass containers will help, but what else can we do? How else can we make a difference? It’s not hard to make the right choices and now everywhere we look, more and more companies are making their products eco-friendly. Even technology products are going green. From Apple to Hewlett Packard to Canon, everyone is making a difference in the environment.

Recycling is easy, but how do you know what to look for when replacing the technology in your home or at the office. Simple. Do your research. Visit places like superwarehouse that offer a great selection of eco-friendly brands like, Apple, Canon and Hewlett Packard. You can replace everything from digital cameras to HP Desktops and even that cheap printer you’ve been meaning to upgrade.

If you’re worried about the expense, don’t be. Eco-friendly products are getting cheaper by the minute. I’m even thinking about going eco-friendly with a new notebook at least. It’s definitely time to replace this piece of junk. But for right now, I’m adding energy saving lights that are better for the environment to our light fixtures and reusing recyclable plastic bags to help our environment.

What about the office? Are you doing anything there? Does your company use eco-friendly technology or are they still using products that are in a serious need of an upgrade?

No matter where you are in life, there’s always something you can do to help with our environmental threat. Even if you can’t afford to purchase a new computer that is eco-friendly right now, you could always talk to your local library and see if they would be willing to upgrade their computers. Or you can recycle books, newspapers, magazines, etc. Everyone can do their part. No job is too small. Every little bit helps. We can fight global warming just like superwarehouse is doing. If they can do it, so can we. Lets not try or we'll see. Lets do it!

Car Renting Going Green!!

Eventually we're going to be moving on with our jobs. When we do, we won't be able to take my husband's old Chevy truck with us because it will barely make it out of town as it is. Since we can't take his truck with us, we'll need to rent a car or truck to get us to where we are going.

Advantage looks like a good place to look for a car rental at a reasonable price. And reasonable is a must! The only problem I found with Advantage is that they don't offer the state of Kansas as a place to pick up a vehicle with them.

Even though we won't be able to use Advantage's service, it doesn't mean that someone else can't! If you live in a major city like, Los Angeles, California...you're in luck!

The best think that I love about Advantage car rental is that they are committed to going green! How insane is that? They are already working on making sure their cars are 100% fuel efficient among other things. It's the first that I've heard of a car rental service going green. Definitely a plus in my book! Check them out!

Cleaning Up

Last week I ordered a big trash dumpster from our city's dumpster program. Generally the city charges $200 per a day for the dumpster which is really insane, but in an effort to get people to clean up the city, they're offering it for free at the moment.

So, needless to say, I took advantage of the opportunity. We had some old furniture and junk in the garage that needed to go and since I was able to get it for over a 3 day weekend, I figured this was the perfect time.

So far I have managed to throw out an old mattress set, a bbq grill and smoker left by the previous owner of this house and the pool liner from the no longer there pool. As scary as it is, just that stuff has managed to fill up the dumpster! I do have an old dresser that I want to throw out too and a couch. The dresser I think I can get away with, but the couch I'll have to call the city about.

I actually wanted to clean out the garage and get rid of a bunch of stuff in there too, but it looks like that might have to wait until next time around. Actually, I hope there is a next time around. I guess we'll see!
