A Long Drive
It's been a very long day and a long drive, but in the end it is always worth it. I have my oldest son for spring break and I am really looking forward to his visit. Then I will hopefully be visiting with my other two sons, which I can't wait for either! I always miss my boys and it's always nice to be able to get to spend time with them when we're miles apart.

Saving Money My Way
Yet, it's not just low income families who are suffering. Middle class families are being effected by the price rises as well.
I know here we are paying $3.55 a gallon for gas! Since my husband drives an old pickup truck, we tend to spend around $60 a week or more for gas. One way we help to make our dollar stretch is by limiting our driving. We drive to and from work (he drops me off and I walk home or have a friend pick me up) and plan a once a week trip to our local supermarket. We also try to plan any other trips on that same day.
Even though food prices are rising, cutting back on food is not something we will be doing. However, we're not opposed to trying off brands in both gorcheries and household goods, to save some money.
One of my favorite areas to shop is the day old bread rack. It's usually the first place I hit when we got to the store. Day old breads can be frozen and will last at least a week, sometimes a bit longer.
To save money on milk, we will stop by braums ice cream store, since their milk is a dollar cheaper than our local supermarket. Plus Braum's milk is much better in taste and free of hormones.
Another way we are able to save money is by browsing the local yard sales for clothing, household goods, books, toys, etc. Despite what some people think, you can find very good gently used clothing at fantasitc rates.
A few weekends ago, we stopped at one yard sale where I was able to find some great clothes at a dime each! Many of the clothes were brand new! The lady who was holding the sale just wanted to get rid of the clothing. I was able to buy a brand new daskin jacket for a dime! My best bargain yet!!
Last weekend my husband was able to find peices to one of his favorite games (Heroscape) for fifty cents! We also found a gently used leap pad that came with educational games that all of our kids can enjoy.
The above are just a few ways we are able to make a dollars stretch during these insane times.
What are some ways you save money? I would love to hear some ideas and I am sure others would love to hear them as well!

Ghosts in Kansas
Several days ago my husband and I were looking up information on local ghosts.actually started because I received an email notice from a website where I had posted about local ghost information last year.
The information was on a town called, Lehunt, Kansas. It's now a part of Independence, KS due to the town going belly up and having to close it's doors. For a long time it was a site where teenagers and cults would hang out. Then, several years ago they fenced the area off.
The only remains of the town are broken stones, a few abandoned buildings and a cemetery. It wasn't Lehunt that caught our eye that day, however. As we were looking up information for Lehunt, we ran across an interesting story that happened not too far from here. It happened right outside of Cherryvale, Kansas when families were traveling the trail to settle a claim. A family known as the Benders settled near Cherryvale and opened a store/inn for travelers passing by.
As the story goes when people stopped at the Benders' Inn, they were slaughtered. In the end it was the biggest Massacre to ever happen in the United States at that time. When I checked with my mother-in-law who knows the area better than we do, we learned that they built a restaurant where the Inn once stood. The restaurant didn't last for very long. The only remains of the massacre are kept in a museum in Cherryvale.
If you're a fan of ghosts like we are, you should definitely check out The Bloody Benders. There's a three page story on the family as well as photos.

A Vacation Closer to Home
When we can afford to do so, I'd like to take some other vacations when time permits. I've noticed there are a lot more places that are closer to home that we can vacation to like, Thousand Hills in Branson Missouri.
It's already easy to see that my husband will love it, simply because they have log cabins and are a golfing resort. I'm not fond of either, but I'm familiar with Branson and do know they have some great places to visit and shop at.
Their prices aren't bad either. For a 1 bedroom/1 bath it's $139-189 a night, depending on the season. Their cabins aren't without extras either. They include: swimming pool, jacuzzi, cable, high speed internet, washer/dryer and more.
Need a cabin with more room? Thousand Hills offers larger cabins to accommodate family needs. Not a fan of cabins? Thousand Hills also offers condos for vacationers who prefer something with a little less woods to it.
Anyway we look at it, there's always something enjoyable for everyone in Branson, Missouri and Thousand Hills just allows us to enjoy it that much more.

Love in Mysterious Ways
Originally this post was suppose to be about a romantic experience with me. However, I think this post deserves to be about a time I remember as a child and how love works in mysterious ways.
Growing up, I never really thought much about how my parents reacted towards one another. To me they were just mom and dad. Then one day, I was away visiting family when my aunt was suddenly explaining to me that it was okay and natural for a husband and wife to be cuddling and kissing, after I had seen her brother and sister-in-law doing so in front of us.
The scene was no big deal to me and I knew it was natural. I guess she thought I would freak out because my family has never seen my parents cuddle or kiss in front of other people. That day begin to make me think about just how my parents really did react toward each other, however. I began to wonder, did they really love each other.
After that I started to pay more attention to the emotions my parents had for one another. Despite what my family didn't see, I was wittiness to my parents moments of sneaking in a hand holding or goofing off with each other with a simple giggle or pat on the leg, or simple smile at each other.
Several years prior to my aunt's conversation with me, I also remember how my father packed us all up and headed for Memphis. To my thinking it was another one of those, time to get out of the house and go on vacation moments. Most of which I dreaded because it meant long car rides and cheap motels.
Now that I think back, I know that vacation wasn't just any vacation. You see, my mother is a big fan of the legendary singer, Elvis Presley. She has every album he's ever made and her walls in their home are covered with Elvis memorabilia. Now those who are a fan of Elvis would know that he is of course from Memphis, Tennessee. My father on the other hand has never been a fan of Elvis. As a matter of fact he has never cared for his music or really liked the man.
Yet that year, he packed us all up and headed for Memphis, Tennessee to none other than Graceland, just one of the things to do in Memphis. We also stopped at the little Elvis cafe where we had our pictures taken eating ice cream and bought Elvis Presley souvenirs.
Last year, my father took my mother back to Memphis, Tennessee to none other than Graceland, of course. It was a last minute decision and certainly wasn't even planned.
Maybe my parents don't always show their love for one another in front of everyone, but my father shows his love for my mother in ways some people would never put up with. I don't know many men who would put up with Elvis all over his living room walls or hundreds of Elvis memorabilia all over the house. And I certainly don't know many men would would go as far as taking their wives to Graceland more than once in a lifetime and never asking for anything in return. To me that is the rarest love of all.
While many people may not be a fan of Elvis Presley, as I mentioned above, Graceland is just one of the many things to do in Memphis, Tennessee. Do You Have Enough?
Most of us have life insurance through our work, but is it really enough? What about
family life insurance? Is it really necessary?
In today's world, there is no slowing down. We now live a fast pace life and fast pace means we take more risks. What would you do if you learned that your family was killed in a car accident? Would you be able to cover arrangements. To be honest... I know I would not. I work at a simple pay that covers bills and food only. I'm not able to set anything aside. Not even health insurance. That's why it's great that global life insurance will allow me to buy up to $50,000 worth of life insurance with $1. How cool is that?
I used to think life insurance wasn't important. I was wrong.

What He Does Not Say
It gets tiring when he does not say what needs to be said. I don't know if he's afraid or simply selfish because he does not want to lose what he already has. Maybe he is afraid that everything and everyone will be taken away from him.
I know he is not happy for something in his past has bothered him for so long. I know that if he continues down this road he will eventually destroy everything he has tried to keep dear to him. Keeping things away from others, hiding and closing friendships to hide the hurt will only go so far.
Stop and think. It is not you that you hurt, but others around you as well. Someday I hope he will understand. Someday I hope he will realize before it is too late. Before life is no more. Someday. I just hope that someday is not too late.

A Weekend Gone WILD!!!
Well, not really... but it felt that way!
I started out wondering why my period was sooo out of whack. Never found the true answer, so I'm guessing it's from stress. On top of the period however, I seem to have gained a nasty little cold. My fiance and I thought it was the flu at first, but it turned out to just be a simple cold.
Friday, I received a surprise phone call from my kids. They were excited about the birthday cards I had sent them and thanked me for them. It was great to be able to talk to my kids even if it was for only a few minutes!
Saturday was really a lazy day, but we managed to make it to the grocery store, my soon-to-be brother-in-law's house to pick up a pool pump and play a game of heroscape. Originally my fiance was suppose to play paintball with his brother, but it rained and it was going to cost way too much to rent the paintball stuff. Soo hopefully he can reschedule a game of paintball with his brother again soon.
Sunday we went to a family reunion. At first my fiance didn't really want to go, but after I begged and pleaded with him, he finally gave in. The reunion started out a little awkward for both of us. Neither of us really knew anyone (distant relatives I hadn't seen in years), but by the end of the evening my fiance seemed to be enjoying himself.
After the reunion we stopped by my aunt's house to pick up some plants that she had for me. I thought we would stay longer than we did, but I should have known better when it comes to my father... Back up.. Reverse... To make a long story short we drove down to the reunion with my parents because my fiance's truck has been giving us a lot of problems lately.
Soo anyway, our visit with my aunt was about 20 minutes or so and then my dad's desperate, if not down right rude attempt at leaving, was made known. His reason behind it? My uncle showed up to visit. Another long story, but my dad doesn't get along with most of my mom's family and especially not with my uncle. And when I say get along, I don't mean fights or anything like that. I just mean, my dad chooses not to get along with him. You'd really have to know my dad to understand I guess.
So after our fast getaway from my aunt's, all the way back (a 30 minute drive) home, I heard this and that about my uncle. It got tiring after about the third repeat of the same negative thing and I finally stuck up for my uncle, which stopped my dad dead in his tracks and we had peace and quiet the rest of the ride home. I often wonder why my mother doesn't say anything to him, when he degrades her family like he did that day. Funny however, she did agree with me out loud when I stuck up for my uncle. She just doesn't voice her opinion on her own. Sigh..
Soo that was pretty much my weekend... As for Memorial Day?? Well that's a whole other post on it's own!
